Painting Projects Across Melbourne

Access shapes most quotes in inner Melbourne. Most of these houses sit hard on the footpath with a party wall on either side, so the front elevation is painted off ladders and trestles and the rest is reached through the house. We work through Carlton, Kensington, Flemington, North Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park, Port Melbourne and Fitzroy. Most of it is exterior painting on render, cast iron and weatherboard.

Sheer paintable area moves an inner east quote further than anything else. A three or four-bedroom Edwardian or Californian bungalow in Camberwell or Canterbury often runs well past 350m² of paintable interior across two coats, and the ceiling roses, archways and picture rails are the reason. Most of what we do in Stonnington is detail work. An ornate ceiling rose, a run of picture rail and a set of French doors move the labour on a quote further than the wall area does, which is why we measure these houses on site rather than over the phone. These jobs run through South Yarra, Toorak, Armadale, Prahran, Malvern and Glen Iris, and take in decorative finishes as well as standard repaints.

Salt air shortens an exterior paint job near the bay. West-facing walls in Brighton, Brighton East, Hampton and Elwood take sun and salt together, so we specify Dulux Weathershield or Wattyl Solagard there and we do not shortcut the wash-down before priming. A street or two back from the water the work turns domestic, and a good share of it is cabinet painting, garage floors and driveways through Bentleigh, St Kilda and Carnegie.

The north and west mixes Victorian workers cottages with newer builds, and the prep is different on each. A hallway in Preston or Coburg is plaster, arches and a ceiling rose, so the prep is filling and sanding. A picket fence in Yarraville is exposed hardwood that needs a full sand before it will hold paint. We also work across Northcote, Essendon, Footscray, Laverton and Melton, on fence painting and limewash as well as standard repaints.

Further out the blocks get bigger and so does the concrete, so driveway painting and epoxy floors make up more of the work out here than they do closer in.
